UPDATE: It is with a warm heart we announce our initial goal of 2000 donations has been surpassed. As more people continue to contribute to this cause, we're keeping our pledge to donate 2 socks for each sold. The first 2000 are already on its way to the region for the thousands of Ukrainian refugees that need our help. Thank you all 💙💛

A tribute to the fearsome resistance of the Ukrainian people in face of abominable aggression. May your aim stay true and your spirit never be crushed.

"If he is real, may God be with him; if he is fake, I pray for more like him."
- Ukrainian unknown

Since the early hours of the invasion of Ukraine, while Russian aircraft roared through the skies of Kyiv and missiles burned on the horizon, internet rumours of a hero of the Ukrainian resistance started to emerge. As rumours do, soon the feats of a mysterious fighter pilot spread like wildfire throughout the world. This spectre appeared out of nowhere, destroying his enemies and vanishing into thin air. Flying a Ukrainian MiG-29, he was credited with downing at least six Russian fighters in a single day of combat - making him the first European Ace since WWII. He's known only as the Ghost of Kyiv.
Of course, there's little to no evidence for any of these claims. Just a few less than reliable tweets that were blown out of proportion by 'the algorithm' and a global media eager to share any news that could try to balance out the overwhelming tragedy reported by its journalists on the ground. Across the world, helpless, distraught people also wanted to believe the legend of a mysterious lone saviour that faces a much more powerful enemy and wins - a real-life David and Goliath.

Yet, this champion of the people symbolizes something very real. The Ukrainian's resistance to a barbaric attempt of subjugation and unwavering defiance in the face of certain doom. Urban legend or grassroots war propaganda, in times of grim horror the Ghost of Kyiv is a symbol of hope for a people that desperately need it, a reason to be brave and fight another day. In that sense, the Ghost of Kyiv is as real as it gets and its spirit will never be crushed.
